Meet Miki

Hey Miki! For the ones that never heard about you or came across your brilliant photography before, tell us a few words about yourself.

Hi, Patrícia! Thank you for featuring me on your beautiful blog.

I was born and grew up in Japan. I live in Osaka and I'm doing an accounting job in a company. I like to capture the little happiness moments in my life. For instance, when I gather and eat something, when I have my cup of coffee or when the beautiful light comes into my room and so on…

You probably answer this all the time but, why texture like mouton

Honestly, I didn’t want to use my real name on Instagram, so I had the idea to go instead for a cat’s name that one of my friends owns Mou. In the end the combination ended up being texturelikemouton. I really like this name and it became an inspiration to create smooth and matte images that had a feel of texture like mouton.

So, how long have you been taking pictures? How did you get into photography?

I’ve got into photography when I created my account on Instagram, about two years ago. Before that time I had the idea that only professional photographers could take great pictures. But with Instagram I realized that my notion was not true at all, that many people could shoot wonderful photos. I was so attracted by the brilliant galleries that I felt the urge to join the community and start to take part on the photography world as well.

Your imagery is very accurate, aesthetic & soothing. How do you achieve this mood? Which are the main challenges?

Thank you so much! I'm always trying to create still and serene images and they need the light that is not too strong. So I take photos near the window facing north. My main challenge is to make photography with a signature mark that is recognizable by anyone and that flows across my gallery. But even I am still unsure of what it is!

Where does your inspiration come from?

I love every wonderful photographer around the world! I've often been looking for photos in Instagram and getting inspiration from various cultures of the world.

If you could go anywhere in the world to take pictures, where would you go?

I wish I could go on a trip to Antarctica! I love cold weather! And Antarctica is a place that still emanates that sense of forbidden grounds and unseen horizons that I long to capture with my camera.

And lastly, what’s next for you?

I'm thinking of having my own portfolio website. As I got inspiration from various cultures of the world, I would like to transmit Japanese culture to the world.
