Another knitting sweater

Summer in Norway

Summer in Norway is a sweater design featured in the latest Amirisu issue 16. I have to highlight that this magazine is a true beauty with charming designs for Spring-Summer, a small guide through New England and a few other things.

At my first glance of the magazine I instantly fell in love with this sweater knitted top-down in the round with some Norwegian fair isle over the yoke but also with a little stranded & cable work on the cuffs. As a Portuguese knitter, I always knit rounded colorwork on the reverse side, so I opted to knit most of the sweater inside out, as I did on Birkin, leaving only the cuffs and neckline to knit in the right side.

I used the pattern suggested wool and one that I have previously talked about in the past Winter, Le Petit Lambswool from Biches et Bûches. As a left over from Nemeton I already had one cake of Light Blue, so I opted to buy some skeins in a color that could do an ideal combination. In this case I went for the Blue Grey.

After doing a few swatches I achieved a gauge of 27x36 on 3.5mm needles, even knowing that the pattern calls for a gauge of 24x34 I decided to work with that little difference since the sweater itself is a little bit wide. I also used a size down needle for the beginning of the yoke and neckline, accomplishing this way a sweater a little bit narrower while maintaining its characteristics. These little adjustments are shared over my Ravelry project page.

I’m happy with the final result although I really love that oversized look showed in the magazine. For Spring-Summer I would almost certainly knit with the exact gauge of the pattern reaching the given measurements, however I would love to go with a plant yarn due to the breathability of those fibers.
