Versailles Pt.2

Versailles grounds are so “immense” that most visitors tend to not wander off the main path that includes the Gardens and the Palace but we carried on towards whatever more the park had to offer us. I must confess that I was not expecting what awaited us.

The Estate of Trianon is a more intimate part of the park, home to the Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon palaces, as well as the Queen’s Hamlet. The last one was a surprise and my favorite. The Queen’s Hamlet looks like a fairy tale brought to life. Here it is possible to see a Windmill and a Dairy farm maintained as a resemblance of the old days.

Walking through this little “village” where rabbits are bread beside pigs, sheep, goats  and donkeys, where the caretakers care about the animals and on they are being treated it is possible to the sparks of remnants of how the farmers lived in this Hamlet.

On the outskirts of the Hamlet a friend found us and stayed with us for most of the visit making sure that we noticed the idyllic autumn while he climbed a tree, jumped between branches and dashed through the fallen leaves. Guided us on the gardens and beaten paths until we found a Giant Sequoia one of the hundreds of beautiful trees brought by the Kings to populate the garden. The little Red Squirrel always stayed close and never strayed too far away until we left the Estate of Trianon.
