Tre Cime di Lavaredo
Pale Mountains ⛰️
The Dolomites are a distinctive mountain landscapes with an outstanding natural beauty with their pale colored and dramatic peaks with diverse sculptural forms.
Tre Cime (Cima Piccola, Cima Grande and Cima Ovest) are the symbol of Dolomites. There is a large system of footpaths and routes for every kind of hiker and alpinist around this area. Since we had sparse time to enjoy this place we decided to go for the most famous itinerary; the Tre Cime di Lavaredo Circuit, and take pleasure from the stunning vistas.
The journey as so many nowadays starts by paying a fee (30 Euros) which grants access to a parking near Rifugio Auronzo. From there it is a straightforward wide footpath to Rifugio Lavaredo directly below the sharp faces of Spigolo Giallo. After a few meters of uphill stroll to Forcella Lavaredo we get the first sight of the legendary North Faces of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo in all their magnificence. Here you can find many man-made little piles of stones (cairns). We made our way up to Rifugio Locatelli throughout the 101 path and spent some time there to lunch and walk around two small lakes on the other side of the hut. On the way back we followed the 105 path that whilst being unchallenging presents some narrow pathways.
During our hike the weather was nice and even but by the end of the day it changed quickly and as the clouds started to surround us on our way we felt lucky for being almost at the end of the path as the visibility was dwindling fast.
We really enjoyed our time at Tre Cime. The scope of view for the mountains on the horizon is hard to describe. We cannot wait to go back again one day and most certainly to do a different and a little more demanding path.
Born of fire.
Born of force.
Mountains move.
Over epochs they rise and fall.
This is the symphony of the Earth.
A rhythm of uplift and erosion that makes not waves of water...
But waves of stone.
And from these waves of stone flows life.
